Lake Louise is a hamlet that can be found within the Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada. The area was named after the fourth daughter of Queen Victoria, Princess Louise Caroline Alberta, who was also the wife of John Campbell, the Governor General of Canada. Lake Louise was originally called Laggan and was a railway station.
Lake Louise is made up of two communities. The first one, called The Village, has a shopping center called Samson Mall, a grocery store, a park visitor center and the Lake Louise Mountain Resort right across Highway 1. The second community, on the other hand, has the Chateau Lake Louise. The hamlet also provides visitors with access to several nearby lakes such as Moraine Lake, Peyto Lake, Herbert Lake and, of course, Lake Louise. Water sports such as river rafting and tubing, hiking, camping and nature and wildlife tours are extremely popular in the area.
