The specialized city of Jasper is the commercial center of Jasper National Park, found in the Canadian Rockies and Athabasca River valley. The area had originally been called Fitzhugh until it was renamed in 1913 after the fur trading post, Jasper House, located there. Jasper provides its visitors access to nearby lakes such as Pyramid Lake, Lac Beauvert, Patricia Lake, Lake Annette, Medicine Lake, Lake Edith, Maligne Lake and several other smaller lakes. To get to The Whistlers’ summit and the nearby Marmot Basin ski resort, one may also take the Jasper Skytram. Other places that visitors should visit in the city include the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, Jasper-Yellowhead Museum and Archives, Jasper Visitor Center, Athabasca Falls, Maligne Canyon, Columbia Ice Field and many more.
